Welcome

HIP is Hackney’s independent forum for parents and carers of disabled children in Hackney. We help families get their voices heard to influence and improve services used by our children.

We run events and workshops on Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) law and on other useful topics that can help you navigate the SEND ‘maze’. HIP also represents SEND families on local boards and committee responsible for local services for our children.

Who we are

HIP was set up in March 2009. Our aim is to involve parents in influencing and shaping services for children with disabilities. HIP is led by and for parents and carers and has a large network of members. At the moment our organising committee is small but active.

Meet a few of us below (we are very friendly and approachable). We are keen to get more parents and carers involved so HIP start get parents involved in even more services that that affect our children’s lives.

Want to Help?

HIP is always on the lookout for new parents in Hackney to act as a parent representative on the Borough’s Steering Groups, Committees and Boards. This is a chance to learn new skills and represent the voice of parents, often at important levels where decisions are made about a key service for children with disabilities.
